Introduction
The Hale–Bopp spacecraft story became influential not because compelling evidence accumulated, but because a small number of speculative claims were repeated across multiple paranormal media channels until they appeared to come from many independent sources. How repetition created false corroboration
The Hale–Bopp spacecraft rumour demonstrates a phenomenon sometimes called false corroboration: repeated reports create the impression of independent verification even when they all derive from the same original claim.
