How to corroborate a prediction across multiple records
A stronger historical record comes from independent confirmation rather than reliance on a single archive.
Useful corroborating evidence includes:
- archived copies from more than one web archive where available;
- forum discussions quoting the prediction before its deadline;
- dated blog posts linking to the original claim;
- news articles or interviews published before the predicted event;
- cached mailing lists or discussion groups that reproduce the same wording;
- screenshots whose dates can be independently verified alongside archived pages rather than replacing them.
Agreement among independent sources is important because each has different failure modes. A missing archive capture may be compensated for by a contemporary discussion quoting the prediction. Likewise, an archived page whose formatting is incomplete becomes more persuasive if readers publicly discussed the same wording before the prediction failed.
Where several independent records all preserve materially identical language before the deadline, the chance that the prediction was rewritten afterwards becomes substantially lower.

- Do independent sources match the archived version? Contemporary references strengthen confidence that the archive accurately reflects what readers actually saw.
These checks are especially valuable when evaluating failed UFO predictions because later reinterpretation is common. A prediction that survives only in an undated screenshot carries much less evidential weight than one preserved through multiple dated archive captures and contemporary public discussion.
Why archives matter for failed UFO predictions
