Introduction
One of the most effective ways that failed UFO landing predictions have been reinterpreted is by shifting responsibility from extraterrestrial visitors to human followers. Assigning responsibility to followers changes how failed predictions are interpreted.
If a leader predicts that spacecraft will arrive on a specific date, the prediction can be tested directly. By contrast, if first contact depends on humanity’s spiritual condition, a failed appearance need not imply that the leader’s messages were mistaken.
Responsibility is redistributed in several ways:
