These limitations explain why an object can remain unidentified even when it appears visually unremarkable. Identification requires enough information to distinguish among several plausible conventional explanations, not merely an impression that the object “looks ordinary.”
Why Ordinary Appearance Does Not Automatically Resolve a Case
Several of AARO’s publicly released reports are notable precisely because they emphasise the lack of unusual characteristics.
For example, multiple unresolved European cases from 2022 and 2024 state that AARO has high confidence the footage depicts a physical object.
